International Rescue Committee
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is a humanitarian non-governmental organization that since 1933 has supported refugees, displaced people, victims of oppression and violent conflicts around the world. IRC Hellas, Non-Profit Organization, was founded in August 2015 in Lesvos, and its activities soon expanded to mainland Greece. Its interventions range from the reception to the integration of refugees, asylum seekers and immigrants, with a special emphasis on the most vulnerable populations and with the aim of rebuilding their lives.
In order to achieve its goals, the IRC has developed close cooperation with the municipalities of Piraeus, Thessaloniki, Athens and Lesvos and jointly implements actions with the last two. He has gained valuable experience for the dynamics and needs of civil society in Greece through close cooperation and support from organizations such as: Diotima, Hellenic Council for Refugees, Generation 2.0 Red, Solidarity Now, Faros, METAdrasi, Social Psychiatric Society and Mental Health, Athens Partnership, Organization Earth, Lesvos Solidarity. At the same time, the IRC coordinates the work of the Economic Empowerment Committee of the Coordination Center for Refugees and Immigrants of the Municipality of Athens (ACCMR).
