Hellenic Wildlife Care Association, ANIMA
ANIMA is a non-profit organization with the main activity of caring for and reintegrating wild animals into the natural environment. It was established in 2005 by people with long experience in wildlife care as well as by veterinarians, biologists, foresters and nature lovers.
As there is no state agency for wildlife care in Greece, ANIMA together with other wildlife care organizations covers the basic need for the protection and conservation of wildlife in the country. Each year it treats and reintegrates thousands of wild animals (birds, mammals, amphibians and reptiles), many of which are rare and endangered. Hundreds of citizens come every month to ANIMA First Aid Station bringing injured, sick or orphaned wild animals and so many others reach out to the organization by phone to receive instructions and information. During 2019-2020, ANIMA treated almost 11,000 animals. In addition, it contributes to the formulation of environmental policies, organizes training seminars, maintains a large network of volunteers across the country, supports research and organizes a wide range of events.
The organization’s impact on Greek society is growing year by year, as more and more citizens become aware of its work. ANIMA is followed on social media by more than 80,000 people, was awarded in 2011 by the President of the Hellenic Republic and its work has been presented many times in the press and television.
