PROJECT PROMOTER OR PARTNER WEBSITE

Datawo is a Non-Profit Organisation founded by a group of women lawyers, Anastasia Karagianni and Anthi Argyriou, with the aim of raising the awareness of women’s rights in the digital age. DataWo is based in Thessaloniki, Greece.

As technology is being rapidly developed, the founders of the organisation realised that the stereotypes of the patriarchal society, which we live in, are also replicated in the digital world, which is dominated and coded mainly by men. For this reason, they decided to take action in Greece in order to raise awareness of Greek society on issues about online gender-based violence, such as online sexual harassment, cyber-stalking or pornography, and about gender equality issues related to the design and deployment of new technological systems in a discriminatory way against women.

Datawo’s work is targeted to women without age limit. At this point, Datawo feels the need to clarify that by women we mean people who identify themselves as women. Organitation firmly believes that no one needs to be limited to stereotypical gender categories. Everyone is free to determine their gender as they feel.

Very briefly, the aim of its action is to raise public awareness of gender equality and gender-based violence issues in the digital space and, consequently, and to create a communication channel with the groups of people affected by the challenges before mentioned and civil society organisations, in order to make the voices of women stronger and protect women’s rights in digital environments.

Organisation field of activity concerns:

  • Conducting legal research on the above issues
  • Raising publicly the awareness of these issues, such as by organising online talks or information webinars or trainings
  • Collaborating with the civil society at local, European and international level
