Although gender equality is one of the EU’s fundamental values, Greece ranks last at the relevant Index. At the same time, gender-based violence, with its significant social and economic costs, affects the lives of many, especially women and LGBTQ+ people.

“Equalgen” is targeted towards a multiplicity of groups nationwide, through integrated activities of training, empowerment, awareness raising and art. The project focus on young people (16-30 years old) as adolescence and the first years of adulthood signify a period of formative experiences in terms of beliefs formed and ways gender is experienced and expressed.

Partners will address issues of inequality, sexist attitudes and behaviors, and gender-based violence through methodologies adapted to the different target groups. Young people from various cultural backgrounds and with different gender identities and sexual orientations will participate in empowerment, care and mutual aid activities, where they will negotiate gender related issues in safe spaces. In addition to traditional, dialectical, participatory methods, contemporary art will be used to approach the issue of gender equality experientially and extralinguistically.

Furthermore, educators of all levels will be trained, in order to receive the necessary resources to make creative use of their privileged relationship with young people in shaping gender representations and attitudes. Decision makers will be reached through targeted advocacy actions (policy briefs), while the wider public will be sensitized through a digital campaign and an art exhibition.

Diotima will undertake the general coordination of the project as well as the advocacy activities, the training of public officials, and the communication campaign. It will also be the main partner in the implementation of information and awareness raising activities. All project partners will implement empowerment and awareness raising on issues of gender equality and gender-based violence.
