I’m learning Greek in the Museum
Design & implementation of 200 educational programs for children and teenagers refugees or immigrants at the Children’s Museum of Athens.
Specifically 50 groups of 15 persons each will participate in a series of 4 educational programs (one a month) that will take part at the Children’s Museum of Athens.
The educational project aims at the enforcement of the Greek language to children and teenagers refugees or immigrants through educational activities in order to respond to the needs of daily communication, to the school demands and at the same time to the understanding of the Greek reality. Also, the project aims to contribute to the elimination of the cultural gap that experiences the certain group of children and teenagers.
In the area of Teaching of Foreign Languages during the last years the task-based approach is applied, meaning the teaching through targeted activities which simulate real communication situations and give emphasis to the communicating operation of the language meaning the familiarization of students with the vocabulary that they use at their everyday life. Such kind of tasks according to the students’ language level can be role game, the execution of a cooking recipe, a creation. Also, the specific project is going to contribute to the equal participation at cultural programs for all children.

The exhibits and the collections of the Children’s Museum of Athens consist the appropriate environment for the implementation of activities of this kind as they simulate the real world, they are interactive and enhance active participation.
Participants in these programs are children and teenagers refugees or immigrants who live in Athens and either they go to school (multicultural or not) either they stay at organized centers for refugees.
